FIREWISE

Whispering Woods Estates in Shingletown has completed a fuel reduction project within the community. Working with Lassen Fire Safe Council under 5GA20110 Cal Fire grant (Shingletown WUI Fuels Treatment Project), the inital analysis began in November 2022, and this portion of the project was completed in August 2023. Tree density, fuel ladders, and dead / dying trees posed a threat to homes and properties in the event of a wildfire. 32 properties in a heavily forested area were treated during 22/23, resulting in 2300 tons of chipped material being removed. It was great to see a community working together to take the measures needed to help protect their Firewise Community should a wildfire approach.

FIRE FUN FESTIVAL 2023

Our 1st Annual Fire Fun Festival was held October 14th at Palo Cedro Park. Representatives from USFS, Cal Fire, Sheriff, Search & Rescue, State Farm, Western Shasta RCD, Fire Safe Council of Siskiyou County, and Shasta County Fire Safe Council were there to answer questions about defensible space and home hardening. During the event there was a firefighter challenge, demonstrations by USFS and Cal Fire, K9 demonstrations by Search & Rescue, a BBQ and beer booth, and 2 live bands.
